Pittsburgh Newborn Photographer | Lifestyle Session | H Family

Sisters who won’t let go of hands. A family dog that won’t leave the baby’s side. For a photographer like me, these are sure signs that you are entering a house full of love.

Meet the H family. Even though this was a Newborn Session, big sister Sada practically stole the show! Sada just couldn’t get enough of loving and holding baby sister Ilana (she practically never let go of her hand throughout the entire shoot), and, of course, baby Ilana already worships Sada. Even the family dog, Poppy, never left Mom’s feet when she was holding Ilana. And then there was the very obvious, long-term love affair going on between Sada and Poppy, the family pup!

So this is a house full of love. But let’s focus in on newborn Ilana for a minute. After all, she’s the new little one and the reason I’m there! This gorgeous, perfect baby was a dream—so cuddly…

… and surprisingly animated for a newborn!

She wore the most precious onesie for her solo portraits, perfect for summer. It fit her well and kept her hands and feet uncovered, which is what I suggest when choosing clothes for newborns.

The opportunity to photograph the H family (with Mom Emilie and Dad Jared) in their Squirrel Hill Pittsburgh home was a real treat. And what a beautiful home it was! It had a soothing neutral décor, high ceilings, and was so spacious and inviting. We took many shots in the bedrooms, and some under a particularly lovely dining room window.

The H family was referred to me by one of my other wonderful clients, and that got me thinking. The other day, out of curiosity, I looked back to see how many blogs I have posted. Pittsburgh Newborn Photographer | Outdoor Newborn Portraits | Baby Aidan

Those of us who live in Pittsburgh need no convincing that Pittsburgh is glorious in May. The city seems to alive after the always-too-long winter. We all come out of hibernation in May. The other thing that happens every May is–babies, babies, babies! For me, the month of May is always full of requests for outdoor newborn sessions. I love it!

Case in point: Baby Aidan, big brother Nolan, and Mom and Dad (Kaitlin and Bob). With a newborn, it’s not really necessary (or even a good idea) to go too far from home to get a great outdoor shot, especially during the nice weather. I chose the side steps of the family’s new home in Mt. Lebanon as the setting for these beautiful family portraits.

Then we moved inside for some more cuddly shots, and what could be more cuddly than bed?

Big brother Nolan and I are old friends, even though he’s only 18 months old. When Nolan was a newborn, Mom and Dad purchased the baby plan for him, and he just had his 12-month photo shoot just a few months ago. Here’s Big Brother Nolan as a newborn:

Nolan was a quiet baby, but since he has become a Big Brother, he has become the biggest chatterbox! He has a Baby Brother to talk to now! (Nolan calls baby Aidan “A”.)

This is definitely one of my favorite families, and I look forward to taking their photos as they grow!

Pittsburgh Baby Photographer | Baby Harper 7 Month Portraits | Baby Plan

Meet Miss Harper. Baby Harper is the most adorable and engaging little subject. Look how expressive she is! Sure, I used all my silly faces and tricks, and she loved me for it!

The only thing better than photographing the cutest babies in the world is photographing them over time and watching them grow. Baby Harper, at seven months old, is a veteran in my studio. Her mom purchased my Baby Plan when Harper had her newborn session, and this is her Milestone Session. I would love you to look closely at her little pink embroidered romper (above). This is a family heirloom; Mom Corey wore it when she was a baby. When parents include details like this, the pictures become part of family history. In fact, Corey is an original “Breezer” (that’s what they call people who grew up in Point Breeze, who knew?). I’m so glad I moved my studio here!

Pittsburgh Family Photographer | Outdoor Family Portraits | Ferriolo Family

I have two brothers–one 21 months older, and one three years younger. Yes, I am the middle child and the only girl. Being the only girl was fun, but I always though it would be fun to be either the oldest—you get to do everything first—or the adorable baby of the family! However, everyone knows the middle child is the smartest… so I’ll take it.

Can you imagine my excitement when I got the opportunity to photograph the Ferriolo family? Two brothers and one sister! In this family, twins Luca and Michael are eight years old and sister Julia is age six. So Julia isn’t the middle child like I am, but she still has two brothers to deal with. I can relate. (The puppy’s name is Mac.)

This was one of those days when everything comes together perfectly. The setting, the family, the weather, the dog (well, he ran off once with his leash in his mouth, but he was just playing)—it was all near perfection. This photo shoot took place on a beautiful Spring day in May, and we did the shoot at a nature park in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunset that day too.

But the absolutely best part of this shoot was the Ferriolo family itself. These funny and goofy kids—Luca, Michael, and Julia—reminded me of a lot of the crazy times I used to have with my two brothers. Nobody plays together quite like siblings do. You relate to each other by fighting and playing, playing and fighting. But there is no deeper love, except for the love you feel for your Mom and your Dad.

Because these guys are really into Minecraft and Roblox (like my own little guy, Jonah), I pretended to be cool and know all about it myself. I think they saw right through me, but in spite of that (or maybe because of it), I got some great smiles out of these sillies!

Pittsburgh Newborn Photographer | Baby Palmer

Baby Palmer was a complete doll for our newborn session at his Peters Township home this spring. We shot some of this session in the light, bright master bedroom and some of the images in the library for a moodier backdrop. The first thing I do for any session is look around the home for unexpected locations–you just never know what part of a home is going to make a great location for newborn photography!

This little handsome fellow already has some very cute outfits to wear for his session. It’s important that newborn clothes fit well but Palmer was a larger baby, so this was not an issue!

One of the many advantages to shooting a lifestyle newborn session in your home is that we can photograph your nursery–some mamas spend a lot of time and energy designing every detail, and believe me when I tell you that baby’s room is going to change a LOT in the months and years to come. Baby Palmer’s nursery is a neutral nautical theme with iron and wood accents. Love that iron crib!
