Pittsburgh Family Photographer | Loughridge Family

So many of my clients want to shoot their annual family portraits in the fall, but this session is going to make a strong case for a summer session!  Look at the beautiful, lush summer leaves and flowers!  Additionally, it’s warm for baby and the light is gorgeous.  Pro tip for summer sessions–bug spray!!

We shot this session at my favorite South Hills location and it was as perfect as ever.  I knew I could leave it to Mom Jill to coordinate great threads for her family too–beautiful pinks & blues looked soft and pretty on the summery backdrop.

This session is baby Andra’s 12-momnth session for her Baby Plan, so I have gotten to know the girls pretty well at this point!  This kind of familiarity allows me to get the best of expressions!

I’m happy to call this family “friends” as well, I know mom from Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s club!

Baby Andra started walking days after this session–perfect timing. 🙂

Pittsburgh Family Photographer | Frenie Family

What happens when you photograph kids just being kids?  MAGIC, that’s what!

Remember how family portraits used to be?  The family would be arranged on a couch, or maybe lined up by height.  We might put Mom and Dad in elegant chairs in the foreground (hands in lap, of course), kids standing behind with their arms on Mom and Dad’s shoulders. And everyone would be wearing their starched and ironed “Sunday best.”  Fortunately, times have changed, and we now know that we get the most memorable and lasting photographs when families are relaxed, happy, wearing their favorite clothes, in their favorite surroundings, and interacting with each other.  No matchy-matchy or upholstered couches here!

This is the delightful Frenie family—Mom Sarah, Dad Chris, and Zach (5th grade), Ezra (1st grade) and Lily (almost 5).  I know this family well, and have been doing family portraits for them since 2013.  Mom told me exactly where they wanted to do the shoot this time—in Frick Park—an iconic Pittsburgh location for this Mt. Lebanon family.  Look how much the kids have grown in just a little more than four years!

Frick Park is an amazing place to photograph families and children.  This particular area is right across from The Frick Museum.  It’s close to my studio, easily accessible, and presents lots of choices for shots for families and children.  I particularly love the iconic stone arch shown here:

As you can see, all three children are adorable, but the scene-stealer was little miss Lily, who was super funny and made me laugh throughout this session. (Lily reminds me of my own Mimi, who is just a couple days younger than Lily, and so fun in the same way.  In fact, Lily and Mimi will be in the same preschool class next year!)

LATE-BREAKING NEWS:  Ezra lost his first tooth just before this session and was SO excited to show it off his new “big boy” smile!

I designed a gorgeous wall art gallery to go in the Frenies’ living room.  It consists of fine art prints mounted on wood panels; these have been extremely popular with my clients lately!

Thank you, Frenie family, for allowing me to watch your family grow!

Pittsburgh Family Photographer | Outdoor Family Portraits | Ferriolo Family

I have two brothers–one 21 months older, and one three years younger.  Yes, I am the middle child and the only girl.  Being the only girl was fun, but I always though it would be fun to be either the oldest—you get to do everything first—or the adorable baby of the family!  However, everyone knows the middle child is the smartest… so I’ll take it.

pittsburgh family portrait 70-200 canon lens at f4. child tween portrait at nature park .Can you imagine my excitement when I got the opportunity to photograph the Ferriolo family?  Two brothers and one sister! In this family, twins Luca and Michael are eight years old and sister Julia is age six.  So Julia isn’t the middle child like I am, but she still has two brothers to deal with. I can relate.  (The puppy’s name is Mac.)

This was one of those days when everything comes together perfectly.  The setting, the family, the weather, the dog (well, he ran off once with his leash in his mouth, but he was just playing)—it was all near perfection.  This photo shoot took place on a beautiful Spring day in May, and we did the shoot at a nature park in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunset that day too.

But the absolutely best part of this shoot was the Ferriolo family itself.  These funny and goofy kids—Luca, Michael, and Julia—reminded me of a lot of the crazy times I used to have with my two brothers.  Nobody plays together quite like siblings do. You relate to each other by fighting and playing, playing and fighting. But there is no deeper love, except for the love you feel for your Mom and your Dad.

Because these guys are really into Minecraft and Roblox (like my own little guy, Jonah), I pretended to be cool and know all about it myself.  I think they saw right through me, but in spite of that (or maybe because of it), I got some great smiles out of these sillies!

Pittsburgh Maternity Photographer | B Family Maternity Session

I shot this session last month when it was a nice warm day but the leaves hadn’t quite appeared on the trees yet.  This made it feel extra important to me to shoot this session when the lighting would be soft and lovely, which of course means golden hour!

Hard to believe but this mama was about 38 weeks pregnant in these photos and had her baby about a week later!

These two both moved to Pittsburgh from Europe a few months ago and will be raising their baby in our fine city of Pittsburgh, lucky little guy! 🙂

I already got to meet the handsome little one and will be shooting his newborn portraits next week.  Now that we have lush leaves on all the trees and warm temps we will get some portraits of him outside.

Pittsburgh Maternity Photographer | Laura G. Maternity Session

Laura called me about a Pittsburgh maternity photography session, and said she felt great being pregnant and wanted to capture the energy of the Brookline neighborhood where she lives.  We got the MOST PERFECT WEATHER on this day–around 70, clear, so lovely.  Right now (as I am writing this), it’s 20 degrees and snowing, just a couple weeks later.  Pittsburgh!!!

She sent me some great snapshots of the streets where we ended up shooting, and I said “yaaaaaas!!!”  I love a location that has meaning to my client and has qualities I look for–great lighting, deep space, and interesting details (like these awesome stairs.

The rest of this session is here:
